Join the Fellowship
Applications to the 2023- 2024 Ukombozi Fellowship will be open February thru April 30, 2023
The Ukombozi Fellowship is a year-long professional development program designed to train, cultivate, and support current and new leaders committed to anti-racism change work. Increasingly, the leaders of today are acknowledging the exigency of eliminating racism from our organizations and systems if we want to create a more equitable world. However, structural barriers remain in place that result in individuals lacking the tactical skill set or strategy to effect change. This is especially relevant to emerging Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and other leaders of color. Leaders need practical, proven strategies that can be used to reshape our organizations and movements into inclusive, anti-racist spaces.
We at the RE Collective understand that our collective liberation is tied together, regardless of race, age, class, sex, ability or gender. The Ukombozi fellowship is open to ALL individuals. We understand that we all come into our anti-racism journey at different levels. We offer dual cohorts (BIPOC & White identifying), in order to mitigate harm and provide folx space to practice, process and grow into the anti-racist leader they want to become.

Why you should apply
Fueled by the RE Collective, the Ukombozi Fellowship is a year-long fellowship program for BIPOC and aspiring white co-conspirators interested in becoming part of a national network of leaders dedicated to breaking barriers and advancing racial equity across industries.
The program is intended for current and emerging professionals and community leaders working across various fields. Ideally, fellowship candidates will be those who seek to build their capacity to lead or step into leadership roles as their own work evolves.

This year-long program is built on trust between fellows and the facilitators. Each participant will receive a baseline and two follow up assessments to evaluate their leadership growth potential.
Our curriculum takes a comprehensive approach to racial equity, rejecting one-size-fits-all models. At the end of this year-long fellowship, participants will join a growing network of anti-racist leaders who support the work and build a movement throughout the state of Texas and nationally.

What you will learn
Our fellowship offers formal, hands-on training to help you better understand how to dismantle racially oppressive systems and lead in your organization and community. Following a week-long orientation aimed at helping new fellows build a shared analysis for how to approach liberation through racial justice, our curriculum focuses on four primary areas of focus:
|
Strengthening Racial Justice LensLearn how to critically assess the impact of racism by examining your own experiences and developing an anti-racist lens that will support your leadership development and collective action.
|
Technical Skill-BuildingReceive training and support to help build tangible skills needed to effectively lead and “operationalize” racial justice in your chosen spaces.
|
Organizing & AdvocacyDevelop engagement strategies in organizing and leading anti-racist policy advocacy and civic engagement experiences with BIPOC and across your communities.
|
Organizational LeadershipAcquire anti-racist leadership skills that allow you to develop clear strategies that promote a culture of racial equity within your organizations.
